Hand & Wrist Pain
Hand and wrist pain covers wrist sprains, recovery after a broken wrist, tendon problems such as De Quervain's and trigger finger, and arthritis in the thumb and hand. East Mountain Physical Therapy treats hands and wrists for patients in Cedar Crest, Edgewood, Tijeras and Moriarty, and its Cedar Crest clinic has occupational therapists as well as physical therapists.
Hand therapy is hands-on
Stiff joints, swollen fingers and a weak grip respond to careful manual work, range-of-motion exercises and strengthening you can repeat at home. Our physical and occupational therapists work with you on both what hurts and what you need your hand to do.

What we treat in the hand and wrist
Sprains and recovery after a fracture
Getting motion and grip back after a sprain or a broken wrist once the cast comes off.
De Quervain's tenosynovitis
Pain on the thumb side of the wrist, worse when you lift a child or twist a jar lid.
Trigger finger
A finger that catches or locks as it bends and straightens.
Thumb and hand arthritis
Aching, stiff joints at the base of the thumb and in the fingers, helped by motion and strength.
Numbness or tingling in your fingers?
Tingling in the thumb, index and middle fingers, especially at night, is the pattern of carpal tunnel syndrome, which has its own page. Arthritis in the hand is also part of arthritis and joint pain, and a sore elbow can send pain into the forearm: elbow pain. After hand surgery, see post-surgical rehab.
